CONTINUITY IS AN ENGINEERING PROBLEM.

EXIST was founded in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2014 to investigate a problem usually treated as philosophy rather than engineering: what would have to remain consistent for a person to remain recognizably themselves across time, biological change, and computational representation?

The company's early work focused on high-dimensional neural-state modeling and longitudinal identity comparison. In 2019, as research expanded into integrated acquisition and validation systems, primary research operations moved to Bellevue, Washington.

In late 2023, EXIST relocated its global headquarters to New York City. New York now coordinates executive leadership, governance, institutional relationships, and private client services. Bellevue remains the principal Continuity Research Center.

01

Mission

To extend the continuity of human identity beyond the biological limits of a single lifetime through rigorous science, engineering, and governance.

02

Operating Principle

We do not treat identity as a single file, memory archive, or anatomical map. Identity is modeled as a constrained, dynamic system whose continuity must be measured across multiple dimensions.

Founder

KEN YIP

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Ken Yip founded EXIST in 2014 around a systems-level theory of identity persistence. His central premise was that static neural structure could never be sufficient to preserve a person. A viable continuity system would need to reproduce validated state transitions, memory relationships, semantic self-models, affective patterns, and behavioral strategy over time.

Yip led the company from its Bay Area research phase through the development of the Bellevue Continuity Research Center and later directed the relocation of the global headquarters to New York in 2023.

He remains responsible for long-term company strategy, Continuity Architecture, and the boundary between research capability and public deployment.
